This job entails managing a team to deal with routine inspections and service requests in relation to the hygiene of food businesses, the chemical and biological safety of foodstuffs and ensuring that food is not misrepresented (labelling) or adulterated.  The postholder will be responsible for ensuring that the Council meets the standards required by the Food Standard Agency’s Food Law Code of Practice including the required statutory returns, and be the main point of liaison with the FSA particularly in relation to audits of the Council’s work.  In addition, they will have to ensure that work in relation to the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme meets the “brand standard” set out by the FSA.

The team works directly with the Public Health Agency in relation to Food Poisoning and the control of infectious diseases as defined by the Public Health Act (Northern Ireland) 1967.  The postholder will be required to liaise with the PHA and Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council to ensure that there is 24/7 cover for this function.

Another main function of the post is to ensure the safety of non-food consumer goods and construction products.  The postholder will manage a team carrying out this work and will be responsible for ensuring service requests and routine work is managed, the requirements of the Office of Product Safety and Standards are met, and that statutory returns to the OPSS and financial claims from the OPSS are completed within the required deadlines.
