Support Worker – Part Time (20 hpw) Fixed Term for 6 months with possibility of extension or being made permanent at Supported Housing,Thomas Street, Dungannon. (20 hours day shift – to include evenings and weekends)
As a Support Worker in our Supported Housing Service you will be working with young people from 16-21 years of age and they can stay with us for up to two years.
The young people will live in flats/shared accommodation within Thomas Street and your job is to help them to prepare to live more independently in the community when they leave the project.
As a Support Worker, you will be assisting the young people in your care to cope with significant change; the changes associated with adulthood; making their own decisions; housing needs; health; hygiene. This is not a job for everyone, so we only want staff who are committed, have a genuine interest in this area of work and are keen to make a difference.
Key responsibilities of this role are:
Provide practical support in all aspects of daily life including domestic assistance, cooking, decorating, shopping, financial budgeting
Maintain and appropriately record and document information including maintaining case files and records in relation to all work activity
Support the young people with making appointments, applying for financial support, attending appointments, etc
Assess needs of individuals and develop and implement support plans
Skills & experience
Minimum one-year experience supporting groups and/or individuals
Experience of supporting young people/adolescents is desirable
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, patience, and empathy
Ability to form appropriate supportive relationships with service users, representatives, and the wider community
Demonstrate resilience and use initiative to resolve issues and follow correct reporting procedures
Demonstrable IT literacy including experience using Microsoft Office applications, email, and the internet
A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle is desirable for this role
